Update in Pictures (5)

I've been very busy lately. I'm trying to update when I can so I don't forget all the things I've been doing! So here is another update in pictures. It covers a small span of time, but a lot of events. I hope you enjoy it!

Between Mike and Willie's visits and the Pompeii trip, I've spent a lot of downtime at Termini lately, and always in the morning. It's a very beautiful place and ideal for poeple watching. It's full of greetings, meetings, and both frantic and serene adventurers. The person on the right of the picture stood like this for 10 minutes just watching the board. It was very cool.

This was another one of those days in Rome when the Weather.com calls for clear skies and it just starts pouring. Eventually, you learn to appreciate it. There's always some mysterious power behind random weather patterns. This picture captured it perfectly. On a supposedly clear day, the sky goes into tumult with the great angels saluting the power of nature.

This was one of the best desserts I've had in Rome so far, at a place called Rouge near the Roman University La Sapienza. Enough said.

This is why Trastevere is my favorite place in Rome. Although devoid of any big monuments, the area is a beautiful labyrinth of winding cobblestone streets full of bustling pubs, artist's shops, restaurants, and many other goodies. It's a place made up of real people making real day to day interactions.

How beautiful. This picture was actually taken at about 2 A.M. Nothing like a late night bakery! This place makes cornetti for Italian bars (cafes) - apparently there are quite a few shops that specialize in such a thing. They bake all night and then deliver in the morning. We went in and just asked for the baked goodies while they were still hot. It's illegal for them to sell directly to the public, but they charge a little more, keep it quiet, and make late night pastry lovers like me very happy!

This is a picture of Piazza del Popolo in the middle of a very big political rally. I have hung out in Piazza del Popolo a few times, but to see it packed with people is a completely different experience. It was electrifying. It truly is a square meant for "the people".

So that wraps up another update in pictures. I will be posting other things as soon as I can. It may be difficult though, because I leave for London, Berlin, Budapest tomorrow for Spring Break. Until then, Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Ciao!
Matt
